About the Mead Community
Located only 10 miles north of downtown Spokane, the second largest city in Washington state, the Mead School District combines the conveniences of city living with the comfortable environment of country life.
Recreational opportunities abound. Five major ski areas, one hundred lakes, biking, camping, and hunting areas are located within a ninety-minute drive of Spokane. In addition, the Spokane area boasts the largest number of golf courses per capita in the United States.
The Mead School District has a national reputation for providing excellence in education. Mead students consistently rank among the state’s top scholars. In addition, activity and athletic programs are highly successful and offer opportunity for all students to be involved.
Staff, parents and community members have worked collaboratively to meet the educational needs of a growing school district.
The District student enrollment is approximately 10,000, and includes two large high schools, one alternative high school, two middle schools, eight elementary schools, and one Home School Partnership Program. Curriculum development is on going and coordinated among schools and between grade levels. District employees have access to four major universities offering a wide range of in-service opportunities and graduate programs.
