Superintendent Rockefeller's Contract Extended

By a unanimous vote, and with overwhelming praise for the outstanding job he has done leading the Mead School District for the past ten years, the Mead School District Board of Directors on January 25, 2016, extended Dr. Tom Rockefeller's contract through June 30, 2019.

ExoWorld Contest Winner

Last year 8th graders at Mountainside Middle School entered an International Astronomical Union contest to name an ExoWorld star and the exoplanet orbiting around it. They won with their entry "Ran" (star) and "AEgir" (planet). These two names were the brainchild of James Ott who is now a freshman at Mt. Spokane High School. Read more . . .

2015 Gold Star Award

100% of qualified Mead 8th graders have completed and submitted applications for the Washington State College Bound Scholarship. In recognition of this outstanding application completion percentage the Mead School District, in December 2015, received a 2015 Gold Star Award from Governor Inslee. Read more . . .

Art at the Governor's Mansion

Ornaments made by Five Mile Prairie students are proudly hanging on the 2015 Christmas Tree at the Governor's Mansion in Olympia. Adhering to the required animal tree theme and size limitations, students in Jennie Cochran's art class created and submitted for approval block print ornaments from a product called soft cut (like linoleum). 78 Mt. Spokane Students Qualify for State DECA!

Congratulations! At the mid-December 2015 Regional DECA Competition held at SFCC, 142 Mt. Spokane High School students participated with an amazing 78 of them qualifying for the State competition that will take place in Seattle later in the school year. The Mt. Spokane DECA teacher/advisor is Dave Whitehead.

Transportation Department "Fill the Bus" Food Drive

The annual "Fill the Bus" Food Drive took place on December 5, 2015, in the parking lot at Yokes and Fred Meyer. 531 lbs. of food plus $1,234 in cash were collected. Thanks to Mead Transportation Department employees for organizing the event and delivering the food and money to the Mead Food Bank.

Fall 2015 GSL "Coaches of the Year"

Congratulations to Mead High Varsity Volleyball Coach Shawn Wilson, Mt. Spokane Varsity Football Coach Terry Cloer and Mt. Spokane Freshman Football Coach Josh Cowart. All three were honored as "Coach of the Year" for their respective sport.

Board Members Reelected

Four of the five Mead School District Board of Director positions were on the November 3, 2015, general election ballot. Board members Denny Denholm, Ron Farley and Carmen Green were reelected in races that were unopposed. Two candidates were on the ballot for the District 3 position. Incumbent Bob Olson emerged victorious (60%) and was reelected for the upcoming four-year term.
