Spanish Language Immersion

Participation in our Spanish Language Immersion Program is voluntary. Transportation is provided from each student's neighborhood school to and from Midway Elementary. Students do not need to reside in the Midway Elementary boundary to apply.

Mead School District's Spanish Language Immersion Program, housed at Midway Elementary is committed to empowering students to become “future ready” global citizens, allowing students to:

  • Become bilingual and biliterate
  • Have high academic achievement in both languages
  • Develop respect and appreciation for other cultures
  • Be prepared for meaningful participation in the global community

Key Ideas About Spanish Language Immersion

  • All subject areas are taught in both languages throughout the course of the K-5 program, though at different ratios each year.
  • Equity for all groups is a major component to Spanish language immersion: equitable access to resources, linguistic equity, and cultural equity.
  • Spanish language education is Washington’s priority English language development program model for all eligible English learners.

Spanish Language Immersion Interest Form 

  • Now accepting applications for Kindergarten and First Grade students (Kindergarten: Age 5 before Sept. 1).
  • For incoming kindergarten and first grade students, 20 spots are available through a lottery process after applications are received.
  • New students must complete the enrollment registration forms prior to submitting the interest form above.
