Students participate in required state tests in April & May every spring. Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment for Science. Results are used to evaluate progress and help inform instructional practices.
Students in grades 2 & 5 participate in the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to help determine eligibility for Highly Capable designation. In addition, any student can be referred to take this assessment for eligibility purposes.
Multilingual students participate in the required WIDA language proficiency tests in order to measure progress in English language acquisition and use. Students are screened in the fall and take an annual assessment in February and March.
Kindergarten and Transition to Kindergarten students participate in the Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKIDS) to measure readiness skills.
Teacher teams combine these assessments with other evidence of student learning throughout the year to help create the effective learning activities to address priority standards at each grade level and in each subject.
