Transition to Kindergarten (TTK) is a kindergarten program for children, below the age of five, who do not have access to high-quality early learning experiences prior to kindergarten. Additionally, they have been deemed by a school district, through a screening process and/or other instrument(s), to be in need of additional preparation to be successful in kindergarten the following year.

The Mead School District offers two different preschool options for children who qualify. Our Developmental Preschool is open to students whose physical or cognitive needs qualify them for special education services. Our Early Childhood Education Assistance Program (ECEAP) is a no-cost option for income-eligible children. Parents may apply for early entry into kindergarten for children who turn age 5 between Sept. 1 and Oct. 31. Children born turning age 5 after Oct. 31, will not be considered for screening.

Screening for each eligible child is on the basis of mental ability, gross and fine motor skills, visual and auditory discrimination, and emotional/social development. Based on the results, the building principal will make a final determination regarding readiness.
