Welcome back! This statement means so much to everyone after a well deserved summer. As we enter into the 2010-2011 school year, everyone is excited about meeting new friends, new teachers, and using their new school supplies. This holds true for all of us at Prairie View too.
This year at Prairie View we have many great reasons to celebrate. Not only are we welcoming back so many of our veteran teachers, we have 11 new staff members to welcome, along with myself, your new principal, and a new assistant principal, Kim Montecucco. Throughout the year you will get to know our new staff members, our veterans, and I am sure you will find that we have brought on the finest educators in the area. The Prairie View Dream Team is in full force.
I am excited to meet many of you throughout the school year, but before then, I’d like to share a little bit about myself. I am starting my 17th year in education, and my 8th year in administration. I grew up in the town of Bremerton and then moved to the Vancouver area after graduating form Washington State University. I taught for nine years in the Vancouver School District before receiving my Master Degree from Washington State University. I then moved into the administrative world as an assistant principal for two years and then a building principal for the past five years.
I have three wonderful children and an amazing wife who lovingly takes care of our children at home. My wife’s family is from “the east side” and it was always our long-term plan to move to this side of the state. As with everything, it’s all about timing, so when the Prairie View principal position opened up our family was ready to make this move.
All in all, a family move from one corner of the state to the other has gone remarkably well. Our family is settled and the school is ready to greet children and families.
As I said earlier, I look forward to meeting you and working with you on your child’s needs. As with our school’s vision I truly believe each child is a “marvel” and feel blessed to be part of your school and to work with an amazing group at Prairie View. If you have any questions at any time, please don’t hesitate to call me.

Parent Notification -- Changes in Student FeesAt their meeting of June 28, 2010, the Mead School District Board of Directors approved an annual,
one-time activity fee for students who participate in one or more
extra-curricular activities (Elementary $20; Middle School $30; High
School $40). The purpose of this
annual fee is to protect extra-curricular programs from elimination. Mead students
will be required to pay this fee prior to participation in sports and/or
activities. Additionally, the
2010-2011 school year will see a reduction in the activity bus schedule. More specific
information regarding the curtailment of this service will be published
in August. Please stay tuned to your
school or district webpage for information updates. Thank you for your continued
support of Mead activities.

No
Cell Phones or Other Electronics at School
Because
cell phones are disruptive to learning, students may not use them at school. Cell phones that are turned off, may be stored in a student's backpack for use after school.
This includes iPods, MP3 players, and handheld games such as Gameboy
and DS. Electronic items will be confiscated and parents will be called
to pick them up in the office. For the safety of our students
and your pets, please do not bring pets onto school property. If you
bring the family dog with you to pick up your son or daughter, please
keep him/her in the car. For student safety, it is important that we
follow this new guideline. We love pets as well, but we cannot risk
student safety at any time. Thanks for your understanding and
support
