Dear Parents,

Your child is bringing a book baggie home.  This book baggie will come home throughout the week.  Your child will have a book to read with you.  Before listening to your child read, please look at the Thinking and Reading Strategies webpage. These will help you as a listener, before, during, and after your child reads.  When you and your child are done, please fill out the form that has accompanied the book in the baggie.  Your child returns the book baggie with all the contents to school the next day.  We want your child to be reading "Easy Books and Just Right Books"  for their book time.

Happy Reading!

Easy Books- When you read an easy book, you have lots of schema for the topic.  You can read all of the words fluently and with an expression.  You understand everything that is going on.

Just Right Books- When you read a just right book, you have quite a bit of schema for the text.  You can read most of the words and you understand most of what is going on.

Challenging Books-When you read a challenging book, you don't have much schema for the topic. You can barely read any of the words, but you can use some of the text features to make meaning.
