H1N1 Swine Flu Preparedness

Mead School District feels it is important to remind our community we have a Pandemic Flu plan in place and ready to implement should it become necessary.

News has slowed down on this issue but the virus continues to circulate in our community. The Mead School District is working with Spokane Regional Health District and other community partners in anticipation that as kids return to school in a few weeks, we may see the virus spread. A vaccine for the virus will not likely be available until sometime in October. Read more

Some important tips to keep in mind:

• It is recommended that people with flu-like symptoms stay home for at least 24 hours after fever is gone without the use of fever-reducing medicines.
• Wash hands with warm water and soap. The use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers is also recommended. Encourage children to cover their coughs and sneezes with their upper sleeve, not with their hands.
• School-age children who live with people with the flu are recommended to stay home for five days from the onset of illness.
