Parent Notification -- Changes in
Student Fees
At their meeting of June 28, 2010,
the Mead School District Board of Directors approved an annual,
one-time activity fee for students who participate in one or more
extra-curricular activities (Elementary $20; Middle School $30; High
School $40).
The purpose of this annual fee is
to protect extra-curricular programs from elimination. Mead students
will be required to pay this fee prior to participation in sports and/or
activities.
Additionally, the 2010-2011 school
year will see a reduction in the activity bus schedule. More specific
information regarding the curtailment of this service will be published
in August.
Please stay tuned to your school or
district webpage for information updates. Thank you for your continued
support of Mead activities.

Math
Adoption Spring 2010
Exciting
changes are coming to support Mead School District's students in meeting
the state math standards.
Our state
adopted new math standards for
grades kindergarten through high school in 2008. During the 2008-2009
school year, our math teachers re-aligned our curriculum to meet the new
standards and came to the conclusion that our math materials did not
provide the instructional content needed for students to meet the new
standards.
Increasing
our students’ math achievement has been and continues to be a priority
in our schools.
This
spring a Math Resources Adoption Task Force
began a review process to:
- Identify
district math needs and develop criteria for math
materials
- Evaluate the math materials recommended
by the State Superintendent of Public
- Instruction
that align closest with the new state standards
- Hear from
materials publisher representatives about how their materials align with
the standards, and support students, teachers and parents.
- Analyze the
materials for each grade level’s standards alignment and flow from
grade to grade
- Offer teacher review input and parent
information night
- Review all data and determine final
selection
- Make recommendation to Instructional
Materials Review Committee and School Board
- Develop an
implementation plan
