STEM Forward Tour Events

Event #1:  Friday, December 9 - STEM Forward @ Mobius, 6-8 pm.
 
This was an opportunity for 7th and 8th grade students, accompanied by an adult, to explore STEM opportunities together. The event, attended by more than 150 individuals, included Mobius demonstrations, the opportunity to explore the Bodies Exhibit and tinker with various technologies and electronics (Mindstorms, Ozobots, 3D Printing, littleBits and SuperCircuits).

Event #2:  Friday, January 27 - STEM Forward, 6-8:15 pm (5th-8th grade students) @ WSU downtown campus (EWU University Center Building, 668 N. Riverpoint Blvd., Spokane).
 
WSU Health Science students provided a wonderful hands-on learning opportunity for 100 5th-8th graders. Students were given four clues and worked throughout the evening to discover why a woman attending a GU basketball game collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital. Using deductive reasoning students uncovered the cause of her collapse.

Event #3:  Tuesday, February 7 - Mead School District STEM Night @ Mead High, 6-8:30 pm
 
An estimated 2,000 students, parents and community members attended STEM Night, where they visited with local companies and explored the many STEM courses offered throughout the Mead School District. The evening's keynote speaker, former NASA astronaut Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger, shared her journey from teacher to astronaut and inspired students to pursue their dreams.

Event #4:  Saturday, February 11 - Mead SD Bridge Building Competition @ Mt. Spokane, Finals 11 am
 
More than 250 elementary, middle and high school students participated. Pictures and results are posted on our STEM Facebook page.
 
Event #5:  Saturday, February 25 - Mead SD Robotics Competition @ Mt. Spokane, Finals 12:30 pm
 
Ten teams participated in the competition. Pictures and results  are posted on our STEM Facebook page.
 
Event #6:  Friday, March 17 - STEM Forward STEMplosion @ Whitworth University, 6-8 pm (7th-12th grade students)
 
This was a wonderful opportunity for 60 of our 7th-12th graders to explore Computational Thinking and Coding. Thanks to Whitworth for hosting this engaging, hands-on learning activity.

Event #7: Wednesday, April 19 - Most Likely to Succeed documentary @ Mt. Spokane High School. Doors open at 6 pm. The 90-minute movie starts at 6:30 pm. There will be a 20-30 minutes discussion time at the conclusion of the film.
 
Event #8: May 13 - Underwater Robotics Competition @ Whitworth University, 9-noon (Awards Ceremony @ noon)
